Breathe
Hi friends!
I feel like I've been running nonstop.
And I don't think I'm the only one who feels that way. A lot of people are feeling like they're constantly on the go. Like we're all in a season where life throws one crazy busy thing after another.
I think it's easy in those seasons to go into autopilot mode. To tell yourself to just push through it. Drink more coffee. Take a micronap or two. Grit your teeth and bear it.
But, the busyness of life doesn't seem to end. There's always something, whether it's work or personal. Another errand, another event or presentation. Before you know it, you've fallen into the "living for the weekend" mentality, though even the weekend is more "catch-up" days than anything else.
I don't know about you, but I don't think that's the way humans were meant to live.
Some days you have a lot of motivation and energy. Other days, you need to take it slow and be gentle with yourself. We aren't machines. We can't run at 100% 24/7. We can't do the same task over and over and over without change and not get a little bored (or have existential dread). We can't feel fulfilled from our days being work and errands and productivity--and nothing more.
We were made for more. You were made for more.
We were made for community. To walk outside and look at the nature around us. To breathe deeply and feel the sun and just be.
I don't know why we've forgotten that.
Now, I'm not saying work is bad. It's not. We were created to work, yes. But that's not what our entire lives were supposed to be.
The sign of a "good day" shouldn't be a completed to-do list, spreadsheets and KPIs, or whatever. It should be taking the call from a family member, getting coffee or drinks with a friend, appreciating the earth and people around you.
So, this week, remember to look at the things and people that actually matter in your life. Remember the value of who you are comes from you just being here--alive and existing--not from how "productive" you are. Take the time to step away from the desk and fluorescents and screens, and just be.
We're human beings. So allow yourself to just be.
Love y'all <3
"Maybe so, but it is better to have only a little, with peace of mind, than be busy all the time with both hands, trying to catch the wind."--Ecclesiastes 4:6
